A course might revisit a subject, prepare for an assessment or explore an interest. Before comparing prices, write down why you are looking. A specific difficulty and a long preparation programme may need different approaches.
Turn expectations into questions
Ask which topics are covered, how the starting point is identified and what the learner will do. For an exam course, check its programme and timescale against the relevant assessment.

- Format: individual or group, in person or online, live or recorded.
- Routine: lesson times, travel and work between sessions.
- Support: who answers questions and how progress is discussed.
- Cost: enrolment, lessons, materials, platform access and cancellation.
A concrete example
An introductory session, if offered, helps explain the approach. Ask about questions and absences. A success promise does not substitute for understanding the work.
Review the choice
Agree when to discuss the experience. Beyond marks, can the learner explain difficulties more clearly? Does the routine fit? Is the content what was agreed?
